ASTHMA AND ALLERGIES

ASTHMA AND ALLERGIES

At Buteyko LA, we specialize in teaching the Buteyko Breathing method, a safe and effective way to control symptoms of Asthma and Allergies. With this method of breathing exercises you can begin to control your Asthma symptoms.  The method is highly effective and drug free. Clinical studies show a reduction in asthma symptoms by up to 50% within two weeks, and a reduction in reliever medication use by an average of 90% within 3-6 months.

The Buteyko Breathing method was developed by a Russian physician, Dr. Konstantin Buteyko. The method can provide a way to re-educate,  re-train and normalize your breathing. The frequency and severity of asthma symptoms will be reduced. None of us wants to rely on a continual need for asthma medication.  Through learning to normalize your breath you will be able to reduce or free yourself of the need for asthma medications totally.

At the renowned Mayo Clinic, this method is mentioned as one of the most promising of the complementary Asthma therapies. “Breathing exercises may improve your quality of life, help reduce asthma symptoms and reduce the amount of medication needed to control your asthma.”

The British Thoracic Society gives the Buteyko Breathing method a “B” classification which means that there are “high quality systematic reviews of case control or cohort studies” and “High quality case control or cohort studies with a very low risk of confounding or bias and a high probability that the relationship is causal.”

Are you wondering, “is this too good to be true?” No the Buteyko Breathing method is not too good to be true.  In order to succeed with the improvements we mention here, you will need to attend the Buteyko class for instruction so that you can learn to do the breathing exercises on your own. Your interest in learning the exercises and commitment to normalizing your breathing are very important to your success.  You will receive support and expert guidance throughout the class.

Your doctor may not have read about the Buteyko Breathing method or in particular about the published clinical studies  of the method. Most doctors will be receptive to complementary asthma therapies such as the Buteyko method. Your doctor will likely support your desire to reduce asthma medication and learn about effective drug free asthma treatment options. The Buteyko method is an adjunct program, not a replacement for your medical asthma management.

The program has helped hundreds of thousands of people in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, but is still new to the United States. The instructor of the Buteyko Breathing method will make no attempt to stop or reduce medication use without consulting with your doctor.

Buteyko classes are small, from 3 to 8 persons. A class consists of five, 90 minute sessions. Private instruction is available and sometimes recommended. Flexible scheduling can be arranged. A series of 5 classes costs $450. Individual sessions are $150 each.
