Congratulations on taking a step toward improving your child's asthma and allergies. It is also the first step for your own peace of mind about your child's condition. Buteyko is a natural, drug-free way of reducing the symptoms of asthma, allergies, hay fever, panic, snoring and sleep apnea.

The Buteyko programe includes special breathing exercises and principles for exercise, food and sleep that Dr. Konstantin Buteyko cosidered vital to good health. This system is successful in eliminating the symptoms of asthma and allergies because it addresses the cause, and it involves a total approach to health. Since breathing is your most basic requirement, even so, it is often the least likely to be considered. Breathing affects every cell in your body and like blood pressure, it can become too fast and too big without your being aware of it. When this happens, the rhythm of ones whole life particularly the body become less efficient.

Buteyko is successful in eliminating the debilitating symptoms of stress because it addresses the cause of the problems. Fast and big breathing patterns can make you ill. Buteyko exercises make you well by restoring breathing balance. Jan Lueken has a supportive approach to teach children from four years and up to learn the Buteyko breathing method. She personalises the course and tailors the buteyko program to suit each child. She will expect you to be in touch, in person and by telephone with questions and she will want you to attend at least one refresher course as part of your child's training.

Will Buteyko Help my Child's Asthma or Allergies?

Does your child get asthma or have trouble breathing through the nose?
Does your child have a persistent cough?
Does your child take medication yet still have symtoms?
Does your child take a reliever medication more than 3 times a week?
Does your child miss school or sport participation because of asthma?
Does your child have poor concentration?
Does asthma dictate your family lifestyle?
Are you concerned about possible side effects from your childs medications?

If you answered Yes to 3 or more questions, enrolling your child in the Buteyko course will make an enormous and positive change to you and your family. Better still, it will greatly improve your child's health.

In obstructive sleep apnea, muscles of the soft palate relax during sleep, leading to narrowing of the pharynx and uvular collapse, closing and obstructing the throat or airway for breathing.
OSA is characterized by brief or longer periods of apnea or cessation of breathing. Children whose tonsils and adnoids are enlarged are prone to developing OSA.

Presently, there is no agreement as to why OSA occurs. It is thought to be associated with ageing, obesity or small airway anatomy in the mouth or throat. These symptoms have been described in medical literature for thousands of years, it is only recently that they are named as a sleep disorder and their significance recognized as in a National Health and Medical Research Council report.

OSA Suffers typically experience:

• Snoring
• Dry mouth
• Mouth breathing
• Fatigue upon awakening
• Poor daytime concentration
• Restless leg syndrome
• Breathlessness

There may be as many a 12 million Americans suffering from sleep apnea. At least 1 out of 10 persons over 65 years of age has sleep apnea. Women develop OSA more frequently after menopause. If someone in your family has OSA, you are more likely to develop it.

During his medical studies, Dr. Konstantin Buteyko concluded that hyperventilation or over-breathing caused many conditions, including sleep apnea and asthma. Dr. Buteyko developed a method of breathing retraining techniques. The method has spread internationally and is presently used throughout the world for treatment of conditions like OSA . If you have done a sleep study and know you have OSA, or that you snore, please consider making an appointment for a free consultation or contact us by email.

If people can learn to breathe through their nose at night they will gradually reduce rate and volume of breath during the day and night, they will stop snoring altogether.

Buteyko LA regularly produces individual and class retraining programs to address all overbreathing problems especially OSA. We are expert in our assistance and can help you with a program for home practice insuring your success in eliminating OSA.

60-80% of snorers will test positive for OSA with a sleep study. Untreated OSA results in a 20% reduction in life expectancy. 40% of adults over 40 years in the US, snore. If you snore, consider talking to your doctor or dentist/orthodontist about taking a sleep study.

Our amazing physical body compensates for the ANXIETY and PANIC thoughts by increasing our breathing rate…we breathe faster and faster, taking in more and more air. Unaware, as we increase our breath rate, we move deeper into the “fight or flight” pattern, anxiety and panic may move us into “red alert”. We may lose touch with predictable behavior.
